How do I buy the software?

  1. Click here to purchase the software. When you have completed the purchase a license code will be emailed to you.
  2. Next download and install the demo. When you run the software you will be prompted to: Try now, Buy now or Enter Registration code. Select "Enter Registration Code" and enter the code that you were emailed.

Do you charge for upgrades?

As a company policy, we do not charge registered customers for upgrades.

How do Upgrade the software?

  1. Backup any .todo files on your computer (not required but should be done on a regular basis as good practice).
  2. Stop running Checklist. To do this use File->Exit and make sure that there is no Checklist icon in your system tray because that means that Checklist is still running in background mode. Note that clicking on the X in the top right of the Checklist window does not close Checklist merely puts it into background mode.
  3. Uninstall Checklist from your computer.
  4. Download and install Checklist from anywhere on our website (note that the demo download is the same as the registered version download).
  5. You will not have to re-register your software, the computer will remember your previous registration.

How do I buy multiple licenses of the software?

  1. You can purchase multiple licenses from the standard Checklist purchase page.
  2. Once this is completed you will be emailed a license code that can be used on multiple machines.
  3. Download and install the Checklist demo on all your machines and use the license code that you were emailed to register it

How do I get a bulk discount?

The Checklist purchase page supports volume discounts when you purchase more than one license.

How can I transfer my license to another machine?

  1. Download and install the Checklist demo on the new computer you want to use it on.
  2. Select "Enter Registration Code" from the first dialog that appears. There is a limit to the amount you are allowed to do this. If you reach this limit, email us and we will reset your license.

How often do you put out new versions?

Every 2-4 months on average. In 2004, there were 4 new releases of Checklist. In 2005 we received our first round of venture funding and are using this to improve Checklist and to build other products that will work with Checklist. 2006 and 2007 have seen several new releases of Checklist and the launch of our new TaskAnyone product.

My trial has expired, can it be reset?

Resetting the 15 day trial is a difficult thing to do. If you find yourself in this situation the best thing to do is to find another computer to install the trial software on. Failing that, email us and our support staff can talk you through the procedure.

When I start the application but it does not come up anymore.

The application may already be running in minimized mode. Look for the green check mark in your system tray. If it is there, click on it to bring the program back up.

How many task lists can I make?

As many as you want. Each task list is stored as a pair of files (one ending in a .todo and another ending in a .done file extension).

How can I show others my task list?

You have several options by which you can do this:
  1. Use Checklist together with TaskAnyone to store your tasks online.
  2. Email your .todo files as attachments to someone else who has Checklist. They will be able to save the attachment and open up the list as a local file in Checklist.
  3. Export to text and share the resultant file with someone who does not have Checklist.
  4. Export to HTML, and put the resultant files on a web server or a shared drive for others to look at with a Web Browse.
  5. Print your list and share the hardcopy.

How do I clear out (archive) items that I have completed?

From the Edit menu, select "Move Completed Task Trees to Archive". This will allow you to move completed trees of tasks either from all categories or just your selected category into an archive that is sorted by completion date.

How do I view the archive?

To toggle between your "to do" lists and the archive use the combo box in the top right of the toolbar.

How do I time myself when I am working on a task?

The best way is to use the "w" hotkey to toggle the "working" flag on the task that you have selected. (Note that in order to use this key you must have the entire task selected or else the letter 'w' will be inserted in your title). This will track the total time that you spend on the task. You can see this time by opening up the task properties or by completing the task (at which point the total time working will become the completion time).

What platforms do you support?

We support all versions of Microsoft windows. Unfortunately at this time we do not directly support either Mac or UNIX based operating systems. That being said if Mac users have PC emulation installed on their computer, Checklist does work within the Mac's PC emulation mode.

Can I use Checklist on a PDA/transfer my tasks to a PDA?

Unfortunately at this time we do not support any PDAs. Should you want to access tasks via a PDA we recommend our online TaskAnyone product. It outputs web page content that is specifically optimized for a variety of mobile devices.

Can I import into Microsoft Word?

You can export your task list titles to a simple text file which can be easily imported into Word documents. You can also cut and paste from Checklist into Word.

Can I import into Microsoft Excel?

You can export your task list titles to a simple CSV (comma or tab space delimited) file that imports easily into Excel.

How do I assign tasks to other people?

Each task has an "assigned to" field in which you can assign another person to complete a task but you will still be in charge of updating this task yourself unless you use Checklist Server to allow the other person access to your personal task list.
